Management Science and Engineering

Introduction:

The first-level discipline of Management Science and Engineering was founded in the 1980s. It has the earliest doctoral and post-doctoral station of first-level discipline in Southwest China. It is also a key construction discipline of Sichuan Province and the former Ministry of Railways, and an important base for management talents training and scientific research.

In 1988, this discipline was the first to be granted National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) of management science in the southwest region. In 2003, it won the first National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (Class B). In 2009, it was approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE) an innovation team (Research on Behavioral Decision-making Theory and Its Application in Management) which is currently the only innovation team in the western region. In 2010, it was approved the first Major Project of NSFC in the southwest region — Research on Service Participant Behavior and Service Strategy in Network Environment. In 2013, it was authorized the second Major Project of NSFC in the southwest region — Research on Customer Insight and Marketing Strategy in the Context of Big Data.

There are two Cheung Kong Scholars, one winner of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, three experts of the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of MOE, eight experts of 100-Talents Programs of Sichuan Province, Academic and Technological Leaders of Sichuan Province, and Experts with Significant Contributions to Sichuan Province, and one first prize winner of Fok Ying Tong Education Foundation for Young Faculty of Higher Education Institution. Also, the discipline has three scientific research platforms (Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory for Service Science and Innovation, 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center for Services and Strategies Based on Big Data, and 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center for International Development of China High-speed Railway), and two teaching platforms (Training Model Innovation Experimental Zone for International, Engineering, Differentiated Managerial Talents, and Sichuan Provincial Experimental Teaching Center).

In terms of talents cultivation, adhering to the spirit of “Rigorous Scholarship” and “Stringent Requirement”, combining the university’s characteristic of railway transit, this discipline has cultivated a large number of compound talents with social responsibility and sound personality, professional integrity and competency, humanistic sensibility and scientific literacy, historical vision and global perspective, innovative spirit and critical thinking, and a good mastery of management science theory and engineering technology management methods. They have become important leaders and management cadres in high-speed railway construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, industry elites of innovation and entrepreneurship in The Grand Western Development Program, and academic leaders and backbones of teaching and research in universities who have wide influence and good reputation around China.
